A shocking case of alleged dowry death has rocked Lucknow, where Nikita Mahana (25), wife of businessman Parth Mahana, was found dead shortly after returning home from a Diwali party.
According to police, Nikita, a Delhi native, married Parth, a Kanpur-based entrepreneur, in 2022. Her family alleged that Parth and his mother had been harassing her for ₹15 lakh to cover business losses.
On the night of the incident, the couple attended a Diwali celebration and returned home late. A quarrel reportedly erupted over money, during which Nikita suddenly collapsed.
Nikita’s sister, Muskan, who called her moments earlier, said she pleaded with Parth to take Nikita to the hospital when she learned that her sister was unconscious. However, he allegedly refused, claiming Nikita had only fainted. She later died, reportedly after suffering convulsions.
Nikita’s parents lodged a complaint accusing her husband and mother-in-law of harassment and assault leading to her death. Police have registered a case under the Dowry Prohibition Act and Section 304B (Dowry Death) of the IPC.
Authorities said the post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause of death.
